Our little four-legged friends are more than man’s best friend. They’re part of the family. With the unconditional love our dogs offer, it’s no wonder they have their own bed and we celebrate their birthdays.
It doesn’t feel right to go away and leave your pooch behind, does it? Well, if you’re visiting the Adelaide Hills or planning a weekend getaway, you can bring your pup along. With the endless open space, hiking trails, parks, and community events, the Adelaide Hills welcomes all legged families.
Hahndorf was recently announced in the top 3 pet-welcoming regions in Australia (and in the top 21, globally). With its wineries, delectable restaurants, stunning scenery and natural wonders close by, there’s plenty of things to do for the whole family.
Does your pooch need to burn some energy? Try out some of our favourite dog-friendly walks.
The Mount Barker Summit offers sweeping Hills views along the easy, short Loop Trail. You’ll need to keep your puppy on a leash, as you’ll spot plenty of birdlife along the way.
Are you a runner? from Hahndorf, bring pup in the car to the start of the Tinjella Trail at Kuitpo Forest. This 14-kilometre track is peppered with walkers, cyclists and, if you’re lucky, horse riders. It’s flat and easy – perfect for dog walking (or running).
You can release the leash at the Balhannah Dog Park and let pup stretch his or her legs, weaving around the tall oak trees, and run free in the open space.
The Laratinga Wetlands is a gorgeous, scenic wetlands area with easy trails perfect for dog-walking. There are also several bird-watching ‘hides’, and picnic area with barbecues, picnic tables, benches and shelters and toilet facilities if you want to stay and play.
After you finish one of the dog friendly walks in the beautiful surroundings of the Adelaide Hills, there’s plenty of activities that are a little bit less exercise-intensive.
There are a few other ideas where you can bring your pup along. Back over in Kuitpo Forest, sip on a glass of red or white in the Balhannah Vineyard of Nepenthe.
Why not pair a market session to your brunch? Grab the lead and take pup with you, as you meander at weekend speed, through the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market.
