Are you planning a conference or corporate event? If you don’t have experience planning conference activities, you may well be feeling overwhelmed. Usually, the admin or marketing person is expected to plan it, and if this is you, take a deep breath.

While you probably have an understanding of common corporate event ideas that you should cover, we’re going to go through a few more creative options.

Let’s go through five.

  1. The ‘Solution’ Room
Designate specific rooms or areas for peer-supported advice for individuals struggling with certain problems. You can host them for 60 or 90 minutes, with the intention to problem-solve a range of challenges. Divide participants into small groups and give each person the spotlight for, say, 10 minutes.
  2. Lightning Talks
Give participants the limelight for a few minutes. Encourage them to prepare for their lightning talk with a presentation or notes. Give them a short amount of time, so the audience can respond with their questions and feedback.
  3. Fishbowls
This is another interesting, information-packed-type session, where discussion can happen in large groups. Three to six people can talk at any one time and these individuals are seated in the centre of the room while the rest of the participants sit around the outside, without interrupting.
  4. Soapbox
Another interesting idea is to invite your guests to submit a proposal and, if chosen, they can take the stage for a designated time, like 30 minutes. They can share projects, pieces of interesting research or a challenge they’re struggling with.
  5. Storytelling Sessions
Who doesn’t love an engaging tale? In this series, encourage your guests to tell stories that touch on themes in the conference. They should reflect the experience of an individual, team or the community. Give them an idea of how to structure it, with a beginning, middle, and end. Each story should be 15 minutes, with a 10-minute Q&A follow-up. This will be a fun, different way of learning.

Make things easy for yourself and choose a location with event management staff on-hand to help you. The Hahndorf Resort is a popular location for conferences and team building activities. We have multiple room styles to host your event, as well as the accommodation so they don’t have the pressure of needing to travel home straight after.

Pitch a ‘long weekend’ to your boss and impress with a three-day conference and Adelaide Hills adventures.
